During a year’s residency in Paris (1994-95) at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts, in the atelier of artist Annette Messager, I made this work. Considering the fact that I was quite ill most of that time, suffering from relentless skin rashes all over my neck and face and constant fatigue, I managed to go out into the gardens and environs of the school and shoot these images. I also collected my ampules of homeopath and made sculptures with them. I also became more interested in velvet and nylons. These materials have resurfaced again and again in my work. As I look back now at this work, I consider it very fruitful and a turning point.
